News aggregator · not a plain RSS reader

One story per
real-world event.

NewsGator gathers every article covering the same event into one living story, keeps its neutral summary current as new facts arrive, gives it an honest, clickbait-free title, and sends you back to the original publisher when it is time to read more.

Two engines: native Apple apps powered by Apple Intelligence, or your own self-hosted NewsGator server.

Now available on iPhone, iPad, iPhone Duo and Mac.

Promise 01

Aggregation that stays current

Duplicate coverage becomes one story. When new facts arrive, the summary is refined in place and read stories come back badged updated, never fake unread.

Promise 02

Honest titles

Every story gets a realistic, factual headline designed to tell you what happened, not trick you into a click.

Promise 03

Read the source, support its author

The summary is a triage tool. One tap opens the original publisher so the visit, subscription, or ad view still goes to the journalists who did the work.

  • Standalone: Apple Intelligence, iCloud sync, no server. Free to try, with an optional Pro upgrade.
  • Self-hosted: Python/FastAPI + SvelteKit with any OpenAI-compatible AI you choose.
  • Privacy: zero ads, zero third-party trackers, zero analytics.
Why NewsGator exists

I was tired of reading the same story five times.

I wanted AI to help me read only what matters to me, and to spare me from skipping, again and again, articles I had already read somewhere else.

I'm not originally an Apple developer, but I already had an AI stack at home. So my first version was a server running next to my Mac Studio, with MLX models. After a few weeks, I realised it just worked, and really well.

It also showed me the problem: asking someone to run an AI server just to read the news is a huge ask. I didn't want to sell hardware, or take big financial risks for an open source project. Then Apple Intelligence arrived. On-device first, Private Cloud Compute when possible: it clicked immediately. Now anyone can have this in their pocket, with no server and no account.

And one thing I care about a lot: when you really want to read a story, you go to the website. NewsGator never tries to replace the people writing the news. Independent press needs those visits.

I use it every day, I think of a new feature every day, and I can't wait for you to try it.

2×

more sources than I followed before. When two websites cover the same event, I read it once.

How it works

Three steps from news flood to signal.

NewsGator is built for people who want coverage from many sources without reading the same story five times.

01

Add your sources

Bring in RSS feeds, YouTube channels, IMAP newsletters, or a synced reader account such as FreshRSS, Miniflux, or Inoreader. OPML and YouTube subscription imports keep setup quick.

02

NewsGator groups the event

It fetches the full text, clusters every article about the same real-world event, writes a neutral summary, and assigns a factual headline.

03

You triage, then go deeper

Read a short story first, open the publisher when it matters, then come back later to ask your archive, share a story, or follow the distilled story RSS feed.

Two ways to run it

The same idea, two very different engines.

Pick the setup that fits your life: zero infrastructure on Apple devices, or a full self-hosted server for your household.

Self-hosted server

Python, FastAPI, SvelteKit, your AI

Run the NewsGator server yourself and point it at any OpenAI-compatible AI you prefer: oMLX, Ollama, llama.cpp, LM Studio, or another compatible endpoint.

  • Multi-user reading with per-user feeds, read state, and preferences.
  • Web app + PWA, archive chat, story sharing, story RSS feed, and activity tracing.
  • RSS, IMAP newsletters, and FreshRSS/Miniflux/Inoreader-style reader sync.
  • The native apps can connect to your server in Server mode: free to use, with only Listen and widgets reserved for Pro.

Compact feature list

The parts people actually use.

Listen & CarPlay

A spoken queue that starts at your first unread story, with natural voices that run fully on your device.

Archive chat

Ask your story archive questions with grounded, cited answers.

Newsletters included

IMAP newsletters flow into the same story pipeline as feeds.

Reader sync

Connect FreshRSS, Miniflux, or Inoreader-compatible accounts.

Updated, not unread

Read state stays honest when a story gains new facts.

OPML ready

Import and export feed lists without rebuilding your library by hand.

Story sharing

Share a story summary and still link straight to the original reporting.

Videos, not just articles

Follow YouTube channels or import your subscriptions. NewsGator summarizes each video from its transcript, groups it with the articles covering the same event, and plays it right in the story. Shorts are skipped.

Story RSS feed

Your distilled story archive can itself be consumed in any RSS reader.

Multi-user server

One self-hosted instance can serve a household without flattening everyone into one account.

Widgets

Home Screen, Lock Screen and Mac widgets keep your latest Stories one glance away (Pro).

Feed discovery

Find quality sources by country and topic, or let the AI search for you.

Saved Stories

Star a Story to keep it; saved Stories are never cleaned up.

Translation

Read every Story in your language, translated on demand and cached.

iCloud, every device

Your library and read state follow you across iPhone, iPad and Mac. Any capable device can process for the others.

In-app help

Ask the chat how the app works: help answers come from the built-in docs, on your device.

Server is open source

Less duplicated noise. More signal.

NewsGator helps you decide what is worth reading, then gets out of the way. No ads, no third-party trackers, no analytics.
